How Do I Know If I Have A Bent Valve. A leak down test will let me know if i have a major leak ie a bent valve thats not sealing. If there was a leak of some kind would then be able to listen into the intake manifold or the exhaust for the sound of air passing by what would be a bent valve.
4.7 Dodge Ram, timing chain broke. How do tell if the valve are bent
If the belt is cracking a piece of the belt might have damaged the eye in the sensor or may be blocking the eye ( the timing belt runs right over top of the sensor at the crankshaft). Or it could be one of many other things:

If all valve are closed and are not bent there should not be much of a leak just what gets.
Probably needs a crankshaft position sensor.

Bad ecu, bad ignition coils, camshaft position sensor, etc, etc.
If your valves are bent it won't run period.
You will also find an excessive amount of valve clearance (like 1/4 of an inch).
It sounds to me like you set your timing with the chain tensioner out and never rechecked it.
This causes the intake cam to be off by one tooth, which makes it start and spit and run like crap.
It is a common mistake.
Also to know is, what happens if your valves are bent?
Yup, if you have bent valves, your engine will start but the it will idle real bad, not smooth.
And symptom will also be power lost.
Furthermore, can a car run with bent valves?
If the valves are not bent that much, then it can still run with most likely not much problems.
If the engine doesn't all ways start right away it will almost sound like the internals are beating each other up or the piston is slapping something inside.
Just another thought, but pulling your valve covers is a quick check.
If you have access to a air compressor you could air up each.

I have torn down my jammer 88 shovelhead type motor because shortly after doing a top end last year some oil was seen coming from the rear cylinder exhaust port.
I ran the bike for 2000 miles and it ran well.
I have had the one head sent out and bent valves were determined.
Pull your valve cover off and make sure both valves in the cylinder you are checki
ng are closed.
Remove the glow plug same as a compression test and go.
You'll hear the air in the intake or turbo depending on which valve is bent.
To determine where a major loss of pressure is leaking;
If you have an engine miss or performance problem, don’t forget to check for a mechanical problem, such as compression loss, with the engine.
The valves in your cylinder head are a vital component of your engine and undergo enormous stresses, opening and closing up to 2500 times every minute under normal operating conditions.
When one or more of these valves are damaged, the result can be anything from reduced power a.
People have told me that you hear a clicking noise and i started to hear it in my engine, so this is why i asked.
Do i go to the mechanic shop and ask them to run a compression test or something?
How much does it usually cost to see if you do have a bent valve?
And how much does it usually cost to replace and fix a bent.
Pull the spark plugs and use a flashlight, if you see any shiny crescents on the pistons, they touched the valves.
If you have the valve cover off, look for a loose rocker, a rocker that got kicked off or a compressed valve spring with the cam lobe away from the rocker for that valve.
3) broken timing belt.
If the timing belt were to snap on an interference engine, there is a very good chance that a piston will contact a valve and bend that valve.
This is one of the reasons why it is critical to change your timing belt on time.
Timing belts will usually work perfectly fine until they don’t.
This is the easy way to find valve damage in a motor.

If you know where to find your sump pump, the backwater valve is probably nearby.
There may be a rectangular panel on top, but often the compartment itself is clear so that you can see inside relatively easily and the round cap can be removed.
In terms of cleaning and checking your backwater valve, there are a few simple things you can do yourself.
